With the multi-layer principle or the onion principle, several layers of clothing are used. It's about putting on and taking off layers of clothing to optimally adapt to the weather. This ensures maximum comfort and optimizes your performance. There are three basic layers with the onion principle:

• The base layer: 
  It covers the underwear and should ideally be tight-fitting and elastic.
• The mid layer
  Also called a thermal or insulation layer. As the name suggests, this layer should primarily protect against the cold. A wool sweater, a fleece jacket or a thin insulation jacket like the Everest can be used.
• The outer shell
  This layer serves to protect you from wind and weather. Hard and soft shell jackets are used here. Depending on the requirements, they should be waterproof and/or windproof, but still breathable. Everest is also suitable as an outershell when it is not raining heavily. It's a little water repellent, but not proof.

Our insulation jacket is particularly suitable for this principle, as it is light and has a small packing volume . This allows you to easily put them in the backpack without taking up a lot of space or strength. The relatively thin filling makes it a good addition. In cold temperatures it is great as the top layer of clothing.
