Bike backpack guide

Whether you are a fanatical mountain biker or a casual cyclist in the lowlands. With or without e-support. Here are a few great tips to look out for so that you can find the right bike backpack for you.

How big should the backpack be?

Hier kommt es natürlich darauf an, was du für Ansprüche hast, zu welcher Season and under what weather conditions you are out and about. Normally, the optimal volume for a bike backpack is between 10 and 25 liters. Anything beyond that affects your mobility and balance.

Exceptions are of course special stories, such as a multi-day tour, a transalp or a Bike und Hike story, on which you may also have a sleeping bag with you.

A small 10 liters backpack, such as the Race 10, is suitable for good weather tours, when you only need a windbreak to lower yourself down, for short after-work tours or for bike trips on the flat..

Backpacks with 20 liters are already heading towards full-day tours with different weather characteristics. Especially when you are on the road for a long time, the temperatures are not ideal, or rain could set in - then you simply need more clothing. You may also need a second set of laundry, so a little more space can never be a disadvantage.

20 to 25 liters is the upper limit and offers plenty of storage space. With the 25 liter backpack you also have the opportunity to transport things for your partner. If you want to make the bike tour easier for your partner. If he or she is perhaps not as fit as you, but still likes to do bike tours, then such a backpack is enough. For downhill freaks it is also better to have a little more space available to to be able to stow the protectors again accordingly. Here you can hardly avoid a volume of around 20 liters, as the parts take up some space.

Contact back or mesh back?

As with hiking backpacks, this is purely a matter of taste. Ventilated bike backpacks are a little heavier because the back system weighs a little more. But you have a little more comfort on your back. Especially on hot days, as the air can optimally circulate through the mesh back system.

Helmet attachment - yes or no?

A helmet attachment is very useful on a mountainbike backpack. If you prefer not to wear the helmet when going up, because you find it annoying during the exertion, then the helmet attachment is almost a must for you. If you generally always have the helmet on your head anyway, then this isn't really important.

Special pocket - necessary or not?

Organization is everything. Nothing is as annoying as looking for something on a tour, digging up all the compartments until you finally get to the right place. Most of the time, the thing you are looking for is at the bottom in the backpack and you have to egt everything out and then stow it away again. Small compartments for the cell phone, handkerchiefs, and cereal bars are very helpful. Especially things that you need often and should have at hand quickly need to be quickly accessible.

If the repair kit is not attached to the bike, a small compartment in the backpack will help here too. Experience has shown that you need this less often. But it's annoying when it swings around loosely in your backpack.

Bike backpack and visibility

With all outdoor sports, you shouldn't forget that you are often on the road as well. Sometimes even in the dark or at dusk. Bike backpacks should therefore have very good reflectors so that you are seen and not overlooked. All of our bike backpacks are therefore equipped with Reflectors . Offroad 20 and 25 even with very large areas. In addition, there is a great feature on these models. These two backpacks have an LED lightthat is firmly anchored in the backpack. So you can't forget it at home. Most mountainbikers have already driven through an unlit tunnel or through a dark gallery during the day and who thinks of taking a light with them on a day tour.

What do you really need to have with you?

A repair kit should actually be included on every long bike tour, especially if you are out and about in areas where nobody can pick you up quickly and you would have to sit around with your broken tire for ages.
